After a long drive from Sussex to Cornwall with a toddler and two dogs, it was a welcome relief to pull up outside the enchanting and serene cottage that is The Fable. This break was extremely special and memorable; our first time away as a family with our little Rupert. Having to wait longer than hoped (due to the pandemic) to take our first trip away as a family only made the time away even sweeter. Stepping inside The Fable feels as if it's wrapping you in a safe, homely hug.

Once the car was unloaded and we had the chance to take in the cottage, we came across the thoughtful welcome hamper waiting for us on the kitchen countertop. I always find these hampers are a lovely touch when staying at any Unique Homestays property, especially as most, if not all, the contents are locally sourced. Our dogs, Shiva and Bunter, soon sniffed out the treats left for them, along with comfortable beds, towels for the wet walks to come.

As Rupert’s first trip away, we were unsure how he would settle into his new surroundings, however, we really needn't have worried! He was absolutely delighted about exploring this quirky cottage and all its nooks, making himself very much at home.

Over the next few days, we fell into an easy pattern of waking up to slow breakfasts in the light and airy kitchen-diner. After which, we would leave the comfort of the cottage to head out with the dogs for a (often wet and windy!) walk along one of the many lovely local beaches. Returning for lunch, the bath was run, and full to the brim with bubbles to warm up before a power nap, then venturing out again for the afternoon. Of an evening and after supper, playing dominos in front of the fire we would finish our day where we started it, around the kitchen table sipping hot chocolates before turning into bed.

The Fable really did make for the perfect base for us, it felt very much like home and made for a fun and safe place for Rupert to explore. The décor is oozing with character and charm; I think we all fell slightly in love with it. As a family who love to walk there are so many stunning beaches to explore nearby. Having stayed at a few Unique Homestays properties over the years The Fable has become a firm favourite for us, and now holds wonderful memories for our little family. It was just the break that we needed after such a long time of being unable to explore and show Rupert what the UK has to offer.
